The National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (CGP) established the Legacy Circle in 2020 to recognize those individuals who have elected to leave a legacy gift to provide for the long-term sustainability of the organization. These commitments will ensure educational opportunities through endowed scholarship funds and programs, as well as general endowment support for CGP. For 35 years, CGP has been the recognized leader in setting guidelines, standards, and ethics for the field of charitable gift planning. With the establishment of the Legacy Circle, CGP will continue to shape the profession and philanthropy for generations to come.
Join CGP’s Legacy Circle and support the future of CGP. There is no minimum amount to participate. All contributors of legacy gifts will be recognized for their leadership and commitment to the long-term sustainability of CGP
For additional information about the CGP Legacy Circle, contact Michael Kenyon at mkenyon@charitablegiftplanners.org or download the fillable pdf form.

Non-IRA Accounts/TOD
Although the RIFT project originally began as an IRA issue, many nonprofits have let us know they are having trouble receiving death benefits when their donors have made the charity a beneficiary of an after-tax account - often referred to a TOD (Transfer On Death) account. These accounts are invested with after-tax dollars and are not pre-tax accounts like IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, etc. In the past, the RIFT project had a sample letter (provided by Charles Schultz) for pre-tax accounts but nothing for after-tax accounts. Now, the RIFT project has an after-tax account sample letter for charities to use and customize to meet their own situation.
TOD sample letter. Note there is a suggested attachment to the letter. Also, we have had success when nonprofits copy their state's attorney general on the letter. Get the name address of your state's attorney general.
If your account is a TOD/brokerage account, look within the database under the particular company name. Each section is divided first into the IRA section and then second to the TOD/brokerage section.

CGP announces National Standards for Gift Planning Success
Wednesday, December 31, 1969
The National Standards for Gift Planning Success (NSGPS) lay out the fundamental best practices of a well-constructed, sustainable gift planning effort. CGP brought together a task force of gift planners with decades of experience and developed sixteen standards divided into three general categories.
Each standard offers checklists, tools and an assessment survey that helps you understand your strengths and weaknesses. Some resources are available to the public and many are collected in CGP Link, a member community. We encourage gift planners to join CGP to gain access to the widest selection of resources.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or growing your program, NSGPS will help you and your donors make a difference with planned gifts.
