Title: Life Events, We All Have Them! Turning Life's Transitions into Planned Gifts

Presenters: Christianna Luy and Emanuel Kallina

Date: June 22, 2021

Time: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. EST

Beginning to engage with donors in gift planning can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to feel confused by all the vehicles, legal language and incredible tax saving opportunities that can come from planned giving. How do you begin to step into gift planning conversations when this all feels so new and you still feel like you don’t know enough? Before you learn the ins and outs of every tool in the gift planning toolbox, you can spot life events that suggest an individual may be ready to make a planned gift. Hear of a donor who’s selling a business? Beginning succession planning? Getting divorced? Retiring? Planning for a non-citizen spouse or special needs child? These situations can be triggers to opening the door to a planned gift conversation. They can also be helpful in discerning when to begin working with a qualified tax attorney.

          - Identify "life events" that lend themselves to gift planning.

          - Engage conversations with donors around "life events."

          - Understand how to utilize "life events" and begin the gift planning process.
