Title: Donor Advised Funds – The Swiss Army Knife of Philanthropy

Webinar Description: Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) have fast become a philanthropic tool for both high net worth and affluent givers. The flexibility coupled with tax benefits make DAFs a popular choice today for many who want to be more intentional and/or achieve impact with their philanthropic giving. This session will cover a broad spectrum including DAF basics, recent court cases, recent criticism and seven strategies where donors have utilized DAFs to carry out their philanthropy in a meaningful and effective way.

Speaker Bios: 

Stephanie Buckley has worked in philanthropy for more than 22 years. She currently serves as the Head of Trust Philanthropic Services within the Wealth & Investment Management division at Wells Fargo. She leads a national team of specialized philanthropic advisors who help individuals and families work toward their unique philanthropic goals. They also assist nonprofit organizations with asset management and board governance. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Stephanie worked at Pepperdine University as an associate vice chancellor. She also raised major gifts, managed the law school’s board of visitors, and taught as an adjunct faculty member. Stephanie holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a JD with a specialization in business law from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, and an LLM in taxation from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.


Marie Ruzek is a Senior Philanthropic Trust Advisory Specialist and Senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Wealth & Investment Management, serving Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Marie helps charitable individuals, families, and nonprofit organizations work toward their unique goals by providing specialized advisory services. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Marie worked in the nonprofit sector for 22 years, most recently at Greater Twin Cities United Way, where she was the Director of Planned Giving and Endowment. Marie earned a BA in Business Administration from Concordia College and a JD from Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
