Beyond Traditional Assets: Preparing for the Growth of Noncash Asset Donations with Rhonda Branch
December 15 at 2 p.m. ET - Monthly Webinar
The composition of wealth is changing. Increasingly, donors hold significant assets outside of traditional cash and publicly traded securities, including closely held business interests, private equity fund interests, cryptocurrency, fine art and collectibles, and real estate. As a result, nonprofits are encountering new opportunities and new challenges in charitable gift planning.
Donor-advised funds (DAFs) are helping bridge the gap between donors, advisors, and charities by providing an accessible pathway for contributing and converting complex assets into charitable capital. What may once have been considered an overly complicated gift can often be facilitated through a DAF, expanding philanthropic opportunities for donors while reducing administrative burdens for charitable organizations.
This session will explore the evolving landscape of noncash asset giving and examine how nonprofits can position themselves to benefit from these increasingly common contributions. Through real-world examples and practical use cases, participants will gain a clearer understanding of how different asset classes are donated, the role DAFs play in facilitating these gifts, and how nonprofits can engage donors and advisors in conversations about charitable planning long before a liquidity event occurs.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Participants will be able to:
-
Identify emerging sources of charitable wealth, including privately held business interests, private fund investments, cryptocurrency, art, and other noncash assets.
- Explain how DAFs facilitate the acceptance and liquidation of complex assets while reducing administrative and compliance burdens for nonprofits.
- Recognize planning opportunities associated with major liquidity events and other wealth transitions.
- Develop strategies for discussing noncash asset giving with donors and their advisors.
