In December 2022 Congress passed Secure 2.0, allowing qualified charitable distributions to fund a one-time only CGA or CRT. Over a year later, how has this new tool changed fund raising? Do donors really like this option? Ericka Webb of Boston College and Laura Alexander of TIAA Kaspick look back at the year that was to unveil trends and strategies that they are seeing, and what we have learned about this new merger of gifting vehicles

About the presenters:
Ericka L. Webb is the Executive Director of Gift Planning at Boston College. She oversees all aspects of the gift planning program and works closely with donors, their advisors, staff, and University leadership to increase philanthropic support to the University through planned gifts. She was Director of Gift Planning and Endowment for the WGBH Educational Foundation for more than four years.  Prior to joining WGBH, Ericka worked in the planned giving offices at both Harvard University and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Ericka earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations from American University and a master’s in education from Harvard University. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chad, Africa, where she worked on community health education and other initiatives. She is on the board of both the Hibel Family Foundation Planned Giving Initiative and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.  She is also a member and past president of the Planned Giving Group of New England (PGGNE).

Laura Alexander, JD, is a Senior Relationship Manager at TIAA Kaspick. Ms. Alexander joined TIAA Kaspick in 2014 from Dartmouth College, where she was Associate Director of Gift Planning. Prior to working at Dartmouth, she practiced law with Bryan Cave LLP in the areas of securities, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and banking. Ms. Alexander holds a BA in American Studies summa cum laude from California State University, Fullerton, and a JD from Vanderbilt University School of Law. She has served as a board member of the Planned Giving Council of New Hampshire and Vermont.
