Gifts that Help Baby Boomers Build Retirement Income

Tim Prosser

The leading edge of the Baby Boom generation has already entered retirement, with many more following close behind.  Your Boomer donors have a lot on their minds, trying to match dreams of a comfortable retirement with the realities of longer life expectancy, changing retirement plan structures, the specter of market volatility, and ongoing family obligations.  This session addresses how to structure life-income gifts to help Boomers address their own  personal and financial objectives in the context of support for your organization.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to recognize and appreciate the demographic changes and changes in retirement planning that impact their work with Boomers.
2. Learn which life-income vehicles can be effectively structured to augment retirement income for donors at various stages of life, with varying personal and financial objectives (through case studies).
3. Learn to effectively plan for the risks inherent in each gift structure, and to communicate clearly to manage donor expectations, before and after the gift.

Simpler Gift Plans All Charities Can Understand and Successfully Promote

Pamela Davidson

This session will provide a “Cliff Notes” version of the most likely planned gift options that all charities can understand and promote with most of their prospects.  This list can be used by staff, Board and volunteers to actively encourage prospects to consider how to best use assets that either now or in future will be a problem to dispose of or distribute, within an oftentimes highly advantageous charitable plan.  Beneficiary designations of a part or one or more qualified retirement plans will be featured, as will be other lifetime options both revocable and irrevocable.

Extend Your Reach: How Major Gift Officers Become Active Partners in Gift Planning Efforts

Craig Smith

If your major gift officer colleagues avoid gift planning conversations with capable donors because they think they must know all the ins and outs of gift planning, then this session is for you.  Spend 60 minutes in an interactive seminar learning how to engage your major gift colleagues as "super sleuths" who can truly partner with you and your gift planning team.

Learning Objectives:
1. Help major gift officers develop a clear and robust understanding of gift planning, and to  purposefully and deftly lead donors through inquisitive discovery conversations.
2. Learn how those conversations lead to active involvement of a planned giving team with major gift officers, donors and advisors.
3. Learn how interactive case studies serve as the tool for sustainable in-house training that positions planned giving directors as collaborative partners, helping to uncover and close the best and biggest gifts of mutual benefit for donors and organizations.
