Case Study: The Winding Road to Amy's Gift

Alexandra Pia Brovey & Shawn Mroz

Join us on our journey which begins with an initial phone call from a prospect and culminates in a completed gift by a donor, while navigating numerous hurdles along the way. This scenario includes multiple fundraisers with competing goals, a blended gift comprised of options both now and in the future, a naming opportunity with part of the funding coming in the future, and teaming with the donor’s estate planning advisor. We will pause at several places for interactive discussion to discuss such things as what to do when an opportunity which was offered to and accepted by the donor is retracted, how to memorialize a blended gift with its various components, and what makes a good team player behind the scenes.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss a gift at a complex organization from start to close, focusing on several problems and solutions along the way.
2. Focus on the anatomy of a blended gift, including nuances of several components.
3. Ponder the skills needed in being a great team player, not only with colleagues and organizational leadership, but also with the donor’s advisor.
