Engaging Board Members to Grow Your Legacy Society

Tricia Benson

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 11:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.

Intermediate

When board members and key committee leaders become "ambassadors" for your planned giving program, great things can happen! In this session, we will discuss how the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Legacy Society has grown from 74 members to over 530 in three years through a comprehensive multi-channel marketing plan that included educating and engaging board members at the national and local level. Using the research on national trends in population demographics, wealth transfer, planned giving and information from Russell James, we implemented an educational series across our local chapter model. After reviewing this Cystic Fibrosis program, we will discuss attendees’ ideas for engaging board members. Participants will leave with a draft presentation to use in your next board meeting.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review the vital role non-profit board members play in legacy giving programs.
  2. Discuss specific goals, strategies and tactics for educating board members on legacy giving.
  3. Create next steps for approaching your board of directors.
