A Name Change and Rebrand for Charitable Gift Planner Association

Partnership for Philanthropic Planning gets a new name and launches website

Indianapolis, IN: The Partnership for Philanthropic Planning has formally changed its name to National Association of Charitable Gift Planners (CGP). The name change and rebrand is a result of strategic changes within the organization and the launch of its website www.charitablegiftplanners.org. The new name and logo were publicly launched at its annual event the National Conference on Philanthropic Planning this October in Dallas, Texas.

These changes are the result of nearly two years of member research, environmental analysis and program development. The name change was approved by the 100+ council member network representing over 8,000 charitable gift planners and allied professionals throughout the country. Melanie J. Norton, Chair of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning Board of Directors and Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement at DePauw University, stated, “As the leading membership organization for practitioners and allied professionals active in charitable gift planning, we are incredibly excited to think about our future in a strategic and relevant way.  The name change not only pays homage to the past but also more clearly defines our distinctive work and the increasing focus on our membership,” said Norton. “It is the sincere hope of the Board that our organization will be well served by this name and rebrand long into the future.”

The new website, www.charitablegiftplanners.org is the primary platform for member services delivery that is focused on professional networking, continuing education, research, best practices and advocacy. The site features a rich online community, extensive resources and archives, career center and online education opportunities.

Personalized Philanthropy Across the Disciplines: Planning for High Capacity Clients and Donors

When properly planned, philanthropy is more than tools and techniques. The purposes of philanthropic planning include but transcend tax savings and financial benefits to donor and family. Effective legacy planning also achieves measurable positive impact on the community, via specific programs, at specific nonprofits in line with client intentions. At the intersection of values-based legacy planning and personalized nonprofit gift planning, a new cross-disciplinary body of practice is evolving, in which the attorney, as counselor, trusted advisor, and servant leader, may play a leading role. This panel, drawn from law, academics, financial planning, and gift planning, will both discuss and model the new cross-disciplinary fusion of fields.

Building a Legacy Gift Portfolio from Your Annual Donor Base

This paper will discuss the four steps to building a productive legacy gift portfolio: 1) create gift appreciation methods that engender long-term loyalty; 2) provide program-related cultivation methods; 3) identify prospects by loyalty first, then wealth level; and 4) engage in proactive relationship development and solicitation.

Bequest Pipeline Conference Whitepaper

The bequest pipeline is made of donors, not dollars. Who are they and what happened to them between the time their bequests were committed and the gifts arrived in the development office? Planners and database managers from 12 Western Pennsylvania nonprofits analyzed ten years of received bequests to find everything we could about the people who made the gifts, then compiled our analysis to identify trends and develop a model that helps us predict what the pipeline will produce to satisfy the donor's goals and the organization's needs. In the course of this analysis, we confirmed or debunked a number of truisms about bequest giving, including "for every known bequest, there are two unknown bequests," "bequest donors do not remove charities from their wills," and "one's best annual donors are one's best bequest prospects."

Blended Gifts: Making the Most of This Emerging Workhorse for Major& Planned Gift Officers

Following the 2008 economic downturn, donors began trending towards revocable estate gifts. Leading charities responded by promoting "blended gifts," which include both outright and deferred components. This presentation will show frontline fundraisers how to make blended gifts their workhorse for re-energizing traditional major gift donors, expanding their prospect pool with deferred gift donors, and bringing added value to their donor conversations. Likewise, planned giving officers will learn how to optimize their collaborative impact by becoming more adept with the technical scenarios and interpersonal nuances, as they learn to embrace the very different fundraising perspectives of their major gift colleagues.
